Erica Skogen is a singer/songwriter who composes songs that are a subsitute for diary writing. Over the years she has stood on the stage at Kungsträdgården and the demo stage at Hultsfred, performed at Storsjöyran a few times, been a member of many bands, appeared on the TV and participated in reveiws, shows and music contests. Her single, "Here's to our fall" was given plenty of air time on the radio in the spring of 2008. The follow up, "This is no home" also found its way to radio stations in Germany and Australia. In October 2008, Erica and Kingen were challengers on the Swedish top lists with their duet, "I don't wanna lose you". I think I would be a very depressed person if I didn’t write songs; I deal with and manage my world by writing songs. By working on a song, changing it and playing it over and over again, I solve my problems and work through my thoughts and ideas. It’s more or less like a tough training session – you really get down into it – and then everything feels a bit better (endorphines). This doesn’t just mean that I write sad songs, but also that there’s a need to debate all sorts of life happenings. It doesn’t have to be about me every time, but often about those around me.
Doing several things at the same time is like a sport for me. A typical scenario in my everyday life is working on a text to a melody while I’m doing the laundry, at the same time as taking the chance to do squats and solve a problem via sms. Top speed and lots of fun generates energy and creativity. When I have a lot to do I start singing inside my head. Then I just have to get to my guitar as quickly as possible, or (if I’m in a guitar-free zone) babble my new tune into my mobile phone. Then I have no alternative but to go for it, to attack it and process it until it’s ready. Even if no one ever hears just that song, I have coaxed it into being. It is cheap, effective and rewarding in many ways.
